Book Review: "Beautiful in God's Eyes"

I have read this book maybe 3 or 4 times since I bought it a few years ago and each time I find that it inspires and motivates me to live out my God-given purpose. The book is basically an analysis of the 'Wife of Noble Character' described in Proverbs 31 of the Bible. The author writes one or two chapters on each of the 21 verses of the proverb.

"Beautiful in God's Eyes" is an in depth study of the faith, character and responsibilities of the Proverbs 31 woman, with particular focus on her mental and physical qualities. The author uses each verse of the proverb to instruct the reader in how to develop a Godly character and work to serve the Lord and her family. She discusses the importance of keeping the mind pure, being kind and compassionate to others and being wise in word and deed. Mrs George explains to her reader that a woman who is beautiful to God works to serve her husband and her family, goes beyond the minimum to present them with her best efforts, nurses and cares for those in need, builds and watches over her home, and contributes to her family's finances.

The author inspires her readers to strive towards excellence. She does not present false images of an easy journey, but discusses some of the difficulties one will possibly face in becoming a Godly woman. Each chapter contains historical and Biblical references, along with a How-To section that gives the reader explicit instructions on things they can do themself and an invitation to accept each challenge. At the end of the book is a study guide with questions and activities relating to each chapter.

I have been inspired by this book and particularly enjoyed the encouragement to make the most of the time I am given and to try and do just a little bit more to bring glory to God. I have been stimulated to learn what is truly important and beautiful to God and to spend time focusing on those things and his purpose for my life.

Beautiful in God's Eyes is a wonderful encouragement to women who want to live a life pleasing to God.
